Blackburn Rovers have axed manager Gary Bowyer after two years in charge at Ewood Park.

Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is the latest Championship manager to lose his job, with the club announcing his sacking via their official website.

Blackburn’s owners the Venkys have decided to replace Bowyer as manager after two years in charge at Ewood Park.

Rovers have won just three of their 16 Championship games this season and languish in 16th spot in the table.

Bowyer has been working under financial constraints at Blackburn this season with the club currently working under a transfer embargo for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.

The Venkys have ran out of patience with Bowyer and are keen to bring in a big-name boss to try and guide them back to the Premier League.

Blackburn are well off the pace in the race for promotion as they are already 11 points off the top six and just four points above the drop zone.

The Venkys are hoping to make a swift appointment and have a new man in charge before their next game against Lancashire rivals Preston North End after the international break.
