HITC Sport understands Rotherham have rejected Charlton bid for striker.

Rotherham United have rejected a bid from Championship rivals Charlton Athletic for striker Jonson Clarke-Harris, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Charlton are looking to bolster their attacking options before the transfer window closes on Monday and they have identified Clarke-Harris as their top target.

Clarke-Harris came up against Charlton in their 4-1 win at the New York Stadium and the talented striker impressed despite the defeat for Rotherham.

Charlton are understood to have tabled a bid of £1.5 million for Clarke-Harris which was instantly rejected by Rotherham.

Rotherham are keen to keep hold of Clarke-Harris as they look to secure survival in the Championship and they are unwilling to strengthen one of their relegation rivals.

Clarke-Harris has scored six goals for a struggling Rotherham side so far this season and his performances for the Millers have brought him to the attention of a number of clubs.

Rotherham broke their transfer record to sign Clarke-Harris from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2014 with the striker regarded as one of the best young talents in the country.

Clarke-Harris endured a difficult first season at Rotherham, spending two spells out on loan at MK Dons and Doncaster Rovers, but he is now beginning to fulfil his undoubted potential.
