Rotherham have made an approach to sign Leeds United midfielder Toumani Diagouraga on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Leeds boss Garry Monk has told Diagouraga that he is ready to let him move on before the close of the transfer window as he does not figure in his plans at Elland Road.

Diagouraga was brought to Leeds in January by former Whites boss Steve Evans from Brentford and the midfielder made an instant impression at Elland Road.

The Frenchman scored three goals in 19 appearances for Leeds last term to help steer them clear of trouble at the wrong end of the Championship table.

Diagouraga started in Leeds’ opening Championship defeat to Queens Park Rangers, but he has not featured for the club since.

News of Diagouraga’s availability has alerted a number of clubs and Rotherham are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by luring the all-action midfielder to the New York Stadium.

Rotherham have endured a difficult start to the new Championship season having won just one of their five league games, while also crashing out of the EFL Cup to Morecambe.

Rotherham boss Alan Stubbs is keen to arrest his side’s poor form by bringing in Diagouraga to bolster his squad and he sees the midfielder as adding quality and experience to his squad.
