Reading are lining up a deal for Iran’s World Cup midfielder Saeid Ezatolahi, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Royals boss Paul Clement is desperate to add some strength to his squad after a disappointing start to the new Championship season.

Reading are second from bottom of the table after failing to win any of their opening five games and Clement wants to add some steel and power to his midfield.

Clement has targeted a move for giant midfielder Ezatolahi, who was once on the books of Spanish side Atletico Madrid.

Paul Clement, Manager of Reading looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Reading at Villa Park on April 3, 2018 in Birmingham, England.

The 21-year-old is currently plying his trade in Russia with Rostov, but he has spent the last couple of seasons out on loan.

Ezatolahi, who made two appearances for Iran during the World Cup, joined Rostov from Atletico Madrid in January 2016.

However, he has hardly played for Rostov having been farmed out on loan to Anzhi Makhachkala and Amkar Perm during the last 18 months.

Ezatolahi is entering the final year of his contract at Rostov and Reading are ready to offer him a move to England initially on loan with an option to become permanent in the January transfer window.
