Reading are eyeing a move for striker Scott Hogan from Championship rivals Brentford when the transfer window reopens next month, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Reading boss Jaap Stam has made striking reinforcements his top priority in the January transfer window and Hogan is understood to figure highly on his wanted list.

Hogan has been in superb form for Brentford this season with 11 goals in 20 appearances to make his second highest scorer in the Championship behind Newcastle United’s Dwight Gayle.

Hogan joined Brentford from Rochdale in the summer of 2014, but saw his progress at the club hampered by suffering two serious cruciate knee ligament injuries in 12 months.

The forward has battled his way back to fitness and he returned to first-team action in March scoring seven goals in seven matches since returning from injury and he has carried on that fine form this term.

Reading are currently in third spot in the Championship and Stam sees Hogan as someone who could prove the difference in their bid to win promotion to the Premier League.

A number of other clubs, including Norwich are tracking Hogan and Brentford are bracing themselves for interest in their prize asset in January.
