HITC Sport understands Preston and Wigan are chasing Accrington Stanley star Callum Johnson.

Championship duo Preston North End and Wigan Athletic are battling it out to sign Accrington Stanley defender Callum Johnson during this month’s transfer window, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Johnson has been in superb form for Accrington this season and he has been an ever-present in League One so far this term.
The 22-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed among clubs higher up the football pyramid with Preston and Wigan watching him on several occasions.
Preston and Wigan are both looking to strengthen their defensive options in this month’s transfer window and they see Johnson as a potential star in the making.

Preston are understood to have tabled an offer to Accrington for Johnson, while Wigan are weighing up a move of their own for the player.
Johnson initially joined Accrington on loan from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2017 before making the move permanent in January 2018.
The attacking full-back helped Accrington seal their surprise promotion from League Two last season and he has continued to impress in League One this term.
