HITC Sport understands Peterborough eye Oldham star Jack Byrne.

Peterborough United are lining up a move for Oldham Athletic midfielder Jack Byrne, HITC Sport understands.
Peterborough boss Steve Evans is looking to reshape his squad for next season as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for promotion from League One and he has made Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Byrne one of his top targets.

Oldham are facing a battle to keep hold of Byrne this summer following their relegation to League Two with a number of clubs monitoring the midfielder’s situation.
Byrne was one of Oldham’s shining lights this season after initially joining on a six-month loan from Wigan Athletic last summer before making the move permanent in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old made 44 appearances in all competitions for Oldham this season and chipped in with an impressive eight goals and nine assists from midfield.
Byrne started his career as a youngster at Manchester City and had a loan spell with Dutch side Cambuur in 2015-16.
The talented midfielder had a brief loan spell with Blackburn Rovers in 2016 before joining Wigan in January 2017, but he made only two appearances for the club prior to his switch to Oldham.
