Highly-rated Oxford United midfielder Shandon Baptiste is poised to sign a new deal at the club, following his impressive start to the season, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Baptiste has been a revelation for Oxford so far this season after breaking into the first-team picture under Karl Robinson.

The all-action midfielder has been Oxford’s shining light in a difficult start to the campaign with a number of eye-catching performances.

Baptiste spent the second half of last season on loan Hampton & Richmond Borough, but he has taken his opportunity in the Oxford side this season.

Baptiste, who joined Oxford from Reading in the summer of 2017, has made eight appearances in all competitions for the Yellows so far this season.

The League One club are keen to tie down Baptiste to a new long-term deal to ward off growing interest in the Grenada international. with clubs from higher up the football pyramid alerted to Baptiste’s potential.

Baptiste is in the final year of his contract at the Kassam Stadium and the club are determined to secure his long-term future with a new contract.
