Oxford have been chasing Johnson all summer and have seen several bids rejected by Motherwell for the skilful attacker.

Johnson handed in a transfer request earlier this week for personal reasons as he looked to secure a move back to England from Scotland.

Johnson has been a revelation for Motherwell since joining the club from Kidderminster Harriers in January 2015 and his progress has not gone unnoticed among clubs in England and Scotland.

The tricky winger has started the new season in stunning form with four goals and four assists in nine games to fuel further interest in Johnson.

The likes of Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Queens Park Rangers have been credited with an interest in Johnson after watching him in action on a regular basis.

However, Oxford’s persistence has finally paid off and they have agreed a fee for Johnson and the player has been given permission to travel down for talks and a medical.
