Middlesbrough have had a bid for Norwich midfielder Jonny Howson rejected, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Howson’s future at Norwich has been the subject of speculation all summer with the midfielder thought to be keen to return up north for personal reasons.
The likes of Burnley and Leeds have expressed an interest in Howson and now Middlesbrough have joined the chase for the 29-year-old.
Howson, who still has two years to run on his deal at Carrow Road, made 39 appearances last season, scoring six goals and contributing eight assists.

Middlesbrough boss Garry Monk is a big admirer of Howson and was keen on bringing him back to Leeds while he was in charge of Elland Road.
Monk has made Howson one of his top targets as he wants to build a side capable of challenging for promotion next season following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
Norwich are reluctantly willing to listen to offers for Howson as they look to raise funds for their own transfer plans this summer.
However, they have turned Middlesbrough’s offer for Howson and it remains to be seen if the Riverside outfit come back with an improved bid for the goalscoring midfielder.
