Newcastle United winger Alex Gilliead is poised to rejoin Bradford City on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Gilliead spent the second half of last season on loan at Valley Parade and helped the club reach the League One play-off final only to lose to Millwall.

The 21-year-old made 10 appearances for Bradford during his time in Yorkshire and he would have made more appearances only for a hamstring injury to sideline him for several weeks.

Bradford boss Stuart McCall is a big admier of Gilliead and he is in the market for wide players after seeing last season’s player of the year Mark Marshall leave for Charlton Athletic earlier this summer.

Newcastle are willing to loan out Gilliead again next season so that he can get valuable first-team experience under his belt.

Gilliead has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Magpies, but he is highy-regarded within the corridors of power at St James’ Park.

The 21-year-old, who has previously had loan spells out at Carlisle United and Luton Town, is down the pecking order in Rafa Benitez’s first-team plans and he is happy to go out on loan in search of regular action.

Talks are at an advanced stage between both clubs over a season-long loan deal and the move is expected to be confirmed shortly.
