HITC Sport understands former Ipswich Town boss Magilton is keen on return to club management.

Former Ipswich Town and Queens Park Rangers boss Jim Magilton is eyeing a return to club management in the near future, HITC Sport understands.

Magilton is currently the Irish Football Association’s Elite Performance Director having also managed the Northern Ireland Under-21 side up until last May.

Magilton began his playing career at Liverpool before joining Oxford United, Southampton, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town before taking his first managerial role at Portman Road in 2006.

Magilton is highly-regarded within coaching circles after helping develop a number of young players during his time at Ipswich and QPR, and that is what he has been doing for Northern Ireland in recent years.

The 48-year-old just missed out on the Championship play-offs in his second season in charge at Ipswich, before moving to Queens Park Rangers in 2009.

Since leaving QPR Magilton has enjoyed a successful spell working alongside current Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill at Shamrock Rovers, as well as a short spell in charge of Australian A-League side Melbourne Victory, before taking up the role working as Elite Performance Director with the IFA in 2013.

Magilton is understood to have received several offers to return to club management in recent years, but turned them all down to stay in his role with Northern Ireland.

However, Magilton would consider a return to day-to-day management if he received the right offer and he was recently linked with the managerial vacancy at old club Oxford United.
