Luton Town are in talks to sign Bury defender Tom Aldred, HITC Sport understands

League Two leaders Luton are looking to bolster their defensive options during this month’s transfer window and they have targeted a move for Aldred.

Aldred only joined Bury last summer from Blackpool, but the Shakers have struggled badly in League One this season.

The powerful central defender has made 23 appearances in all competitions for Bury so far this season, but he has unable to stop them slumping to the bottom of League One.

Bury are 11 points adrift of safety as things stand and they have won just four games all season.

Luton and Bury could be swapping leagues next season, with Luton trying to win promotion and Bury facing an almighty battle to avoid relegation.

Luton boss Nathan Jones is a big admirer of Aldred, as he feels his experience and leadership skills will be vital for his side in the second half of the season, having won promotion from League Two last time out with Blackpool.
