Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori is poised to join Reading after they agreed a club record fee for his services, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Ilori has struggled to make an impact at Liverpool since joining from Sporting Lisbon in 2013 and has found himself out of favour under Jurgen Klopp.

The 23-year-old made only three first-team appearances for Liverpool during his time at the club, all in the FA Cup last season after he was recalled from a loan spell at Aston Villa because of an injury crisis in defence.

Ilori also had spells out on loan Granada and Bordeaux during his time at Anfield after failing to break into the first-team at Liverpool.

Reading boss Jaap Stam was initially looking to sign Ilori on loan, but the Championship promotion hopefuls have now pushed ahead to sign the Portugal under-23 international on a permanent basis.

Ilori is undergoing a medical at Reading and if he puts pen to paper on his move to the Madejski Stadium he could make his debut in the FA Cup against Manchester United this weekend.
