Lincoln City are poised to sign Barnet forward John Akinde, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Akinde is looking to fix himself up with a new club following Barnet’s relegation from League Two last season.

A number of clubs have shown an interest in Akinde, but Lincoln have moved quickly to agree a club record deal of £250,000 with Barnet for the prolific striker.

Akinde only managed seven goals in an injury-hit campaign last season, but he boasts an impressive scoring record having neeted 87 goals in 171 games for Barnet.

Lincoln have been keeping tabs on Akinde for some time with the 28-year-old scoring against the Imps last season.

HITC Sport understands Akinde has travelled to Lincoln today for talks and a medical as he closes in on a move to Sincil Bank.

Akinde would become Lincoln’s fifth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Bruno Andrade, Grant Smith, Michael O’Connor and Harry Toffolo and his signing would come as a massive boost to Imps boss Danny Cowley as he looks to build a side capable of challenging for promotion again next season.
