Leeds United are ready to enter the chase for Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern following his heroics at Euro 2016, sources close to the club have told HITC Sport.
McGovern is out of contract at Hamilton at the end of the month and looks set to leave the Scottish Premiership club on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old has brought himself to the attention of several Premier League, Championship and Scottish Premiership sides as a result of his stellar displays for Northern Ireland in France.
McGovern produced one of the best individual performances of Euro 2016 with a stunning display in the 1-0 defeat to Germany with the goalkeeper making a number of superb saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
Now Northern Ireland’s participation at Euro 2016 is over following their last 16 defeat to Wales McGovern is expected to make a decision on his future and hold talks with clubs interested in securing his services.
Rangers have been credited with an interest in McGovern as Mark Warburton looks to bring in a goalkeeper to provide cover and competition for first-choice stopper Wes Foderingham.
However, Leeds are ready to make a move for McGovern with new Elland Road boss Garry Monk making a new goalkeeper one of his top priorities.
Rotherham’s Lee Camp and Derby County’s Lee Grant have been linked with Leeds, but Monk could now move for McGovern on a free transfer as he looks to bring in competition for Marco Silvestri.
