HITC Sport understands QPR coach to join Karanka at Nottingham Forest.
Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka is set to add Queens Park Rangers coach Simon Ireland to his management set-up at the City Ground, HITC Sport understands.
Karanka, who replaced Mark Warburton as Forest manager earlier this month, is still assembling his backroom staff at the club and he wants to bring in Ireland as first-team coach.
Karanka has already brought in Juan Jose Vila as head of first-team analysis and assistant coach Carlos Cachada has been appointed fitness coach, while Jose Miguel Marcos Costoso has arrived as first-team analyst.
Ireland will be the final member added to the backroom team.
Ireland has been working as Head of Coaching and Coach Education at Queens Park Rangers since 2015 and he is highly-regarded in coaching circles.
The former Huddersfield Town midfielder took his first steps into coaching at Blackburn Rovers with their Under-18s and then as assistant academy manager, before moving to Brighton to work with their Under-21 squad in 2013.
The 46-year-old has been offered the chance to work alongside Karanka at Forest and he accepted the offer to move into first-team coaching.
Karanka secured his first win as Forest manager at the weekend, as he guided his side to a shock 2-0 victory at Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.
