HITC Sport understands former Middlesbrough boss is frontrunner for Forest job.

Former Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has emerged as the leading contender for the vacant manager’s job at Nottingham Forest, HITC Sport understands.
Forest are searching for a new manager following the sacking of Mark Waburton on New Year’s Eve following nine months in charge at the City Ground.
Academy manager Gary Brazil has been placed in caretaker charge and he guided the side to a hard-fought goalless draw against Leeds United on New Year’s Day.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is understood to be looking to make a quick appointment so that the prospective new manager can have time to assess the Forest squad before making moves in this month’s transfer window.

Karanka has been out of work since being sacked by Middlesbrough last March and the Spaniard is keen to fix himself up with a new job.
The former Real Madrid defender has been linked with a number of jobs lately including the Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday jobs and the Forest role is something that would be of interest to the 44-year-old.
Karanka would fit the bill as the type of manager Forest are looking for as he is available and he has knowledge of the league having won promotion from the Championship with Middlesbrough in the 2015/16 season.
