HITC Sport understands former Newcastle defender Steven Taylor set to link up with Ipswich.
Former Newcastle United star Steven Taylor
Former Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor is to link up with Ipswich Town for training as he looks to try and win a move to Portman Road, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Taylor is a free agent after leaving Portland Timbers in December when his MLS contract was cut short by mutual consent
The 30-year-old made just nine appearances for Portland Timbers after failing to settle in America and he decided to return home to find a new club.
Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy is now weighing up a move for the experienced defender as he looks to add to his squad this month and he has invited Taylor to join them for training next week so that he can cast an eye over him at close quarters.
Steven Taylor is a free agent
Taylor, who came through the ranks at Newcastle, left St James’ Park last summer after making over 250 appearances for the club.
Ipswich have made two signings this month in the shape of Kieffer Moore from Forest Green Rovers and free agent right-back Jordan Spence and they could be joined by Taylor if he impresses McCarthy in training next week.
