A number of Football League clubs are monitoring Junior Brown’s situation at Shrewsbury Town, HITC Sport understands.
Brown is nearing a return to fitness after suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in October in a game against Fleetwood.
The 28-year-old is making a quicker than expected return to fitness following the knee injury and he could even feature before the end of the season.
Brown was a standout performer for Shrewsbury before his injury and was instrumental in their push for promotion from League One.
The former Crewe and Oxford defender was an ever-present in Paul Hurst’s side before the injury as he helped Shrewsbury go 15 games unbeaten in League One at the start of the season.
Brown is regarded as one of the best full-backs outside the top two divisions and his performances at the start of the season brought him onto the radar of several clubs higher up the football pyramid.
Brown’s suitors have been alerted to his possible availability on a free transfer this summer with the defender out of contract at Shrewsbury at the end of the season and no new deal agreed as yet.
Shrewsbury would be reluctant to lose Brown on a free transfer, but several clubs are ready to offer the player a deal if he does end up leaving the New Meadow.
