Leicester City defender Callum Elder is a target for a number of clubs on either a loan or permanent deal, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Elder enjoyed an outstanding season out on loan at Wigan Athletic, helping them win the League One title and reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup which included a memorable win over Premier League champions Manchester City.

Wigan have expressed an interest in having Elder back at the DW Stadium while a number of other sides have shown an interest in the Australian left-back.

The 23-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Leicester and his suitors are closely watching his situation at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester are planning talks with Elder over a new deal, with several Championship and League One sides weighing up moves for Elder on loan or on a permanent basis depending on him agreeing terms on a new contract.

Elder is currently third-choice left-back at Leicester with Christian Fuchs and Ben Chilwell ahead of him in Claude Puel’s plans meaning his first-team opportunities look limited at Leicester next season.

Elder, who joined Leicester as a 16-year-old from Australian side Manly United, is yet to make his first-team debut for the Foxes and has had spells out on loan at Mansfield, Peterborough, Brentford, Barnsley and Wigan over the last few seasons.

Elder could be tempted to leave on loan or on a permanent basis this summer in search of regular first-team football and a number of clubs have already expressed their interest in signing the defender this summer before the transfer window closes.
