A number of clubs in England and Scotland are chasing former Manchester City goalkeeper Billy O’Brien, HITC Sport understands.

O’Brien is a free agent after his contract at City expired at the end of June.

The 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on at Scottish Championside side St Mirren and he impressed during his stint in Paisley.

O’Brien established himself as No.1 keeper at St Mirren and he kept five clean sheets in 15 leagues games for St Mirren.

His performances have not gone unnoticed among clubs in England and Scotland with several clubs looking to bolster their goalkeeping options this summer.

O’Brien came through the ranks at Manchester City, but he never made a first-team appearance during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

The Wales Under-21 international was on the fringes of the first-team and was named in the squad for last season’s Champions League clash with Celtic, but he could not find his way into Pep Guardiola’s star-studded team.

O’Brien is now assessing his options as to where to continue his career as he wants to join a club where he will be playing regular first-team football to aid his development.
