Gillingham have sacked under-fire manager Justin Edinburgh, The Guardian report.

Edinburgh has been under pressure at the Priestfield for some time after a poor run of form and Monday’s defeat to Oxford appears to have been the final straw for the Gillingham board.

Gillingham have lost three of their last five League One games and the club have made the decision to part company with 46-year-old Edinburgh.

Former Tottenham defender Edinburgh led the Gills to ninth place last season, but he has been unable to replicate that success so far this season.

Gillingham are languishing in 17th spot in the table after picking up just eight wins from 25 games in League One this term to leave them eight points above the relegation zone.

The pressure started to build on Edinburgh after Gillingham were knocked out of the FA Cup in the first round by non-league Brackley Town in November.

With Gillingham not having another game for 12 days due to the FA Cup this weekend the club have decided to act and look for a new manager to try and transform the club’s fortunes this season.
