Oldham Athletic midfielder Dan Gardner has emerged as a surprise target for two unnamed French clubs, HITC Sport understands.
Oldham are facing a battle to keep hold of Gardner following their relegation from League One and a number of clubs at home and abroad are monitoring Gardner’s situation.
The skilful midfielder made 49 appearances in all competitions for Oldham this season and has been one of the shining lights for the Latics in a disappointing campaign.

Gardner’s displays have put him on the radar of League One clubs for next season, but his mystery French suitors are ready to offer him the chance to move across the channel.
Oldham are reluctant to lose Gardner, who has one year to left to run on his deal, as they look to build a side capable of winning promotion back to League One next season.
The 28-year-old joined Oldham last summer on a free transfer from Chesterfield after he turned down a new deal at the Spireites.
Gardner had a short stint in the Celtic youth system and he has also played for Crewe and Halifax as well as loan spells at Bury and Tranmere before joining Chesterfield.
