Nottingham Forest star Britt Assombalonga is poised to sign a new contract at the club after agreeing to extend his stay at the City Ground.

Assombalonga’s future at Forest has been the subject of speculation this summer with Championship rivals Norwich city seeing a bid for his services rejected by the Forest board.

Forest resisted all offers for Assombalonga during the transfer window and they have moved quickly to secure the striker on a new long-term deal.

Assombalonga joined Forest from Peterborough in the summer of 2014 for a club record £5.5million fee and he still had three years to run on his current deal, but his new deal will take him to 2021.

Assombalonga has battled back from a serious knee injury which ruled him out of action for 14 months after suffering the problem in February 2015.

The 23-year-old is now back to full fitness and has started the new Championship season in fine style with three goals for Philippe Montanier’s side.

News of Assombalonga’s new deal will come as a major boost to Forest fans after seeing prize asset Oliver Burke leave the City Ground for RB Lepzig in the transfer window.
