HITC Sport understands Preston defender is set for Fleetwood move.
Fleetwood Town are poised to sign Preston North End defender Tommy Spurr on loan, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Spurr has dropped down the pecking order at Preston in the last couple of seasons and the Championship club are willing to send him out on loan.
The former Blackburn Rovers defender made just five appearances in the Championship last season, mainly down to injury after being ruled out for four months following knee surgery.
The 30-year-old is keen to be playing regular first-team football next season and a number of clubs have shown an interest in signing Spurr this summer.
However, Fleetwood have moved quickly to agree a deal with Preston to take Spurr on a season-long loan deal.
Spurr’s arrival will come as a boost to Fleetwood boss Joey Barton as he can play at left-back and central defence and boasts a wealth of League One experience from his time at Doncaster Rovers.
Barton has been busy reshaping the squad at Highbury following his arrival as Fleetwood manager and Spurr is now set to become the club’s fourth signing of the summer following the additions of Jason Holt, Craig Morgan and Eddie Clarke.
