HITC Sport understands Fiorentina are set to land the Serbian defender.

Serie A hopefuls Fiorentina are poised to sign defender Milan Vilotic from Swiss club Young Boys, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the potential deal.

Fiorentina have been looking to bolster their defensive options during this month’s transfer window and they have lined up Vilotic as their top target.

Viola boss Paulo Sousa is well aware of Vilotic from his time managing in Switzerland with FC Basel, having come up against the powerful centre-back on several occasions.

Vilotic began his career at FK Cukaricki before moving to Red Star Belgrade and he has battled back from a life-threatening condition in 2010 to resume his career at the highest level.

The Serbian international joined Grasshopper in the summer of 2012 and he helped them win the Swiss Cup in his first season at the club.

Vilotic came up against Fiorentina in the Europa League and it is thought that is when the defender emerged on the Italian side’s radar.

Fiorentina have continued to keep tabs on Vilotic’s progress at Grasshopper and his current club Young Boys and they have decided to make a move for his signature.
