HITC Sport understands Southampton and Huddersfield supremos turn down Rangers approach.

Rangers’ plans to bring in a new director of football have suffered a double blow after being turned down by Southampton’s Ross Wilson and Huddersfield Town’s Stuart Webber, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Rangers are looking to implement a new management structure of a head coach and a director of football in the wake of Mark Warburton’s shock departure last month with head of recruitment Frank McParland also leaving with the manager.

The Glasgow giants spoke to both Wilson and Webber about taking up the director of football role at Ibrox, but the pair have rejected their overtures.
Wilson, who is director of scouting and recruitment at Southampton, is highly regarded at St Mary’s and is viewed as a possible long-term successor to executive director Les Reed.
Webber, Huddersfield Town’s head of football operations, was also offered the role, but he has opted to stay with the Championship hopefuls as they look to try to win promotion to the Premier League.
Sources have told HITC Sport that both Wilson and Webber are happy at their respective clubs and did not feel the timing was right to move to Rangers due to the instability at Ibrox, with the club trailing Old Firm rivals Celtic on and off the pitch.
