Derby to seal deal for Reading's Evans

HITC Sport understands Derby are set to confirm the signing of George Evans from Reading in the next 24 hours.

Derby County are set to seal the signing of Reading midfielder George Evans on Tuesday, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Evans has passed a medical at Derby after Reading accepted a fee in the region of £1million for the former Manchester City youngster.

The 23-year-old was close to joining Sunderland earlier this summer, but Evans turned down the chance to move to the Stadium of Light after having talks with the League One club.

Derby have moved quickly to keep Evans in the Championship as Derby boss Frank Lampard sees him as a key addition to his plans ahead of the start of the new Championship season.

Evans, who joined Reading from Manchester City in 2016, made 33 appearances in his debut season at the Madejski Stadium in 2016-17 season as they reached the Championship play-off final, but lost his place last term, playing just 18 times.

Evans came through the ranks at Manchester City, but made just one first-team appearance for the club having had three spells out on loan at Crewe, Scunthorpe and Walsall during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

Derby have signed four new players so far this summer and Evans is set to become the fifth new arrival since Lampard took over from Gary Rowett.
