HITC Sport understands Championship duo are battling for non-league sensation Afolayan.

Gary Rowett manager of Derby County looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Nottingham Forest at iPro Stadium on October 15, 2017 in Derby, England.

Derby County and Birmingham City are both chasing Solihull Moors ace Oladapo Afolayan, HITC Sport understands.

Afolayan has been a revelation for National League side Solihull Moors since joining them last February from Loughborough University.

The pacey striker scored four goals in ten starts for Solihull Moors last season and he has continued that fine form this term with 10 goals in 27 appearances in National League Premier this season.

Afolayan’s impressive displays for Solihull Moors have brought him to the attention of a host of clubs higher up the football pyramid with several Football League clubs sending scouts to cast an eye over the 19-year-old.

Steve Cotterill Manager of Birmingham City looks on prior to the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Birmingham City at The Den on October 21, 2017 in London, England.

Derby and Birmingham are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by firming up their interest in the former Chelsea trainee during this month’s transfer window.

The Championship pair have identified the potential in Afolayan and they see him as a star in the making who could become the next Jamie Vardy.

Solihull Moors are unlikely to stand in the teenager’s way to move into the Football League if they receive a suitable offer for his services.

Afolayan was with Chelsea from eight to 14, then widened his football education in Canada with Toronto before returning to England to continue his studies.
