A number of Football League clubs are weighing up a move for Dagenham & Redbridge defender Luke Pennell on a free transfer this summer, HITC Sport understands.

Pennell, who played in the same MK Dons youth team as Dele Alli, is out of contract at National League side Dagenham this summer and the news has alerted a number of clubs in the Football League.

The 22-year-old has caught the eye this season of clubs higher up the football pyramid with a number of impressive performances for Dagenham.

Pennell is a versatile defender who is equally adept at playing at left-back or centre-back.

The powerful 6ft, 4in defence has previously attracted the interest of the likes of Burnley and Norwich during his time at Dunstable Town prior to his move to Dagenham & Redbridge.

Pennell’s versatility and technical ability makes him an attractive proposition to several sides who are looking to strengthen their defensive options for next season.

Dagenham & Redbridge are resigned to losing Pennell when his contract runs out this summer and the defender is waiting to see what options come his way before making a decision on his career, but it seems almost certain the defender will be moving back into the Football League ranks.
