Peterborough striker Matt Stevens is a target for a number of clubs higher up the football pyramid following his impressive form on loan at Slough Town, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Stevens has been earning rave reviews at Slough Town after joining the National League South side on transfer deadline day.

The 20-year-old has netted 11 goals in 18 games for Slough, helping the club reach the second round of the FA Cup.

Several Championship sides are set to watch Stevens in action in this weekend’s FA Cup clash with League One Gillingham as they weigh up moves for the forward.

Stevens burst onto the scene at Barnet as a teenager and he was the subject of a £400,000 bid from then Premier League Swansea during his time at Underhill.

Peterborough beat a number of sides to Stevens’ signature in the summer of 2016 and he is highly-regarded at the League One club.

Stevens has had loan spells at Cambridge City, Sligo Rovers and Kettering Town, where he scored 34 goals in all competitions.

The forward, who was Peterborough’s top scorer in pre-season, could be recalled from his loan at Slough to help with Peterborough’s promotion push in the second half of the season.

Stevens’ suitors are expected to keep tabs on the forward’s form, with Peterborough bracing themselves for interest from clubs higher up the leagues for the deadly finisher.
