HITC Sport understands AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor is a contender for the Cambridge and Wrexham jobs.

AFC Fylde boss Dave Challinor is under consideration for the vacant manager’s jobs at Cambridge United and Wrexham, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

League Two strugglers Cambridge are looking for a new manager following the sacking of Joe Dunne last weekend, while Fylde’s National League rivals are also searching for a new boss after seeing Sam Ricketts leave the Racecourse Ground for League One Shrewsbury Town earlier this week.

Cambridge and Wrexham are assessing their options and former Tranmere Rovers and Bury defender Challinor is thought to be in the frame for both roles.

Challinor is highly-regarded in coaching circles following his success with National League hopefuls Fylde.

The 43-year-old has overseen three promotions with Fylde since joining the club from Colwyn Bay in 2011.

Fylde reached the National League play-offs last season and they are well-placed to challenge for promotion this term, with the side currently in fifth spot in the table.

Challinor only signed a new deal with Fylde in the summer to keep him at the club until 2021, but they are bracing themselves for interest in their highly-rated manager.
