Premier League new boys Cardiff City have agreed a fee in the region of £4million for Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Alex Smithies, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock has made a new goalkeeper one of his top priorities this summer as he looks to bring in a proven shot-stopper to bolster his squad ahead of life back in the Premier League.

Neil Etheridge was Cardiff’s No.1 keeper last season in the Championship, but Warnock believes he needs a new keeper ahead of the challenge of life back in the top flight.
