HITC Sport understands former Wigan boss set for Chesterfield job.
Former Wigan Athletic manager Gary Caldwell
Former Wigan Athletic boss Gary Caldwell is set to be appointed as Chesterfield’s new manager, sources close to the club have told HITC Sport.
Chesterfield are searching for a new manager after they parted company with Danny Wilson and assistant manager Chris Morgan earlier this month following a poor run of form.
The Spireites are currently in the League One relegation zone after winning just two of their last seven matches and they are facing a real fight to avoid relegation.
A number of names have been linked with the vacancy at Chesterfield, but the club look set to turn to Caldwell to try to lead them to survival in League One.
Caldwell keen to get back into management
Caldwell is understood to have impressed the Spireites hierarchy after being interviewed for the role.
Chesterfield have confirmed they will name their manager on Wednesday and sources have told HITC Sport Caldwell will be unveiled as Wilson’s successor.
Caldwell has been out of work since October after parting company with Wigan.
The 34-year-old’s first managerial role was at Wigan where he won the League One title during his 18-month spell in charge and he has been keen to get back into management.
