HITC Sport understands Bury set to sign former Preston star.
Chris Humphrey in action for Preston
Bury have agreed a deal to sign former Preston North End and Hibernian winger Chris Humphrey on a free transfer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Humphrey is a free agent after the expiration of his short-term deal at Hibernian at the end of last season.
The Jamaican international joined Hibs on a short-term deal until the end of the season last December after leaving Preston.
Humphrey made eight appearances during his time at Easter Road and impressed when he played, but his progress at the club was blighted by injuries.
The flying winger helped Hibs secure promotion back to the Scottish Premiership, but Hibs boss Neil Lennon opted not to extend his stay at Edinburgh as they prepare for life back in the top flight.
Bury manager Lee Clark
Bury have been busy in this summer’s transfer window as Lee Clark looks to reshape his squad at Gigg Lane and he has been a long-term admirer of Humphrey.
Clark sees Humphrey as a key addition to his side as he looks to build a side capable of challeging for promotion from League One next season and Humphrey boasts a wealth of experience which will be welcome in Clark’s young side.
The 29-year-old enjoyed four successful years at Motherwell before leaving for Preston in 2013 and he helped the club win promotion back to the Championship in 2015.
