Burnley defender Ben Mee is set to end speculation over his future by signing a new deal at Turf Moor, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Mee’s future has been the subject of conjecture this summer, with the central defender entering the final year of his contract at Burnley and contract talks stalling.

A number of Burnley’s Premier League rivals have been monitoring Mee’s situation ready to pounce if he could not agree a new deal.

However, HITC Sport understands there has been a breakthrough in the contract talks, and Burnely are confident Mee will sign a new deal to extend his stay at the club.

Mee has established himself as a key man at Burnley side and captained the side in the absence of Tom Heaton.

The 28-year-old initially joined Burnley on loan from Manchester City in the summer of 2011 before making the move permanent in January 2012.

Mee has made close to 250 appearances for Burnley since his arrival, and is now playing in a centre-back role after initially playing as left-back in the early years of his time at Turf Moor.

Mee was instrumental in helping Burnley finish in seventh spot in the Premier League last season to qualify for Europe. Tying down the defender to a new deal would come as a massive boost to the club ahead of the new season.
