Bristol City have turned down a bid from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers for winger Luke Freeman, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

QPR boss Ian Holloway is looking to bolster his attacking options this month, and he has targeted a move for Freeman as he looks to fire his side clear of relegation trouble at the wrong end of the Championship table.

Freeman has established himself as a key player for Bristol City since joining the club from Stevenage in 2014, but he is entering the final six months of his contract at the club.

The 24-year-old has made over 100 appearances for Bristol City and played a key role in winning promotion to the Championship and helping them stay up last season.

Bristol City chief Lee Johnson has rejected QPR’s offer for Freeman as he looks to keep the midfielder at Ashton Gate, and it remains to be seen if QPR come back with an improved offer before the transfer window closes.

Freeman started his career at Gillingham and his performances for the Gills saw him win a move to Arsenal in 2008, but did not make a first-team appearance for the Gunners before leaving to join Stevenage four years later.
