HITC Sport understands Bristol City lead race for Oxford star.

Bristol City are closing in on the signing of highly-rated Oxford United winger Callum O’Dowda, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
O’Dowda’s future at Oxford has been the subject of conjecture for several months now with a number of clubs keeping tabs on his situation.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in the Football League and the clubs higher up the football pyramid have been credited with an interest in him.

O’Dowda enjoyed a fantastic season for the U’s last term, scoring eight league goals and contributing three assists to help Michael Appleton’s men secure automatic promotion to League One.

The talented attacker was also handed his debut with the senior Republic of Ireland team in the friendly against Belarus earlier this summer just before Euro 2016.
Bristol City boss Lee Johnson is understood to be a big admirer of O’Dowda and sees him as playing a key role in his plans going forward at Ashton Gate.

Oxford are reluctant to lose O’Dowda this summer as they plan for life in League One, but they accept it will be hard to resist a big money offer from Championship club Bristol City.
