HITC Sport understands Bolton have signed former Bristol City midfielder Gary O’Neil on a free transfer.
Gary O’Neil in action for Bristol City
Bolton Wanderers have handed free agent Gary O’Neil a deal at the club after he impressed on trial this summer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
O’Neil is available on a free transfer after leaving Bristol City at the end of last season.
O’Neil made just six appearances for Bristol City last season, and Robins boss Lee Johnson decided not to offer him a new deal.
The 35-year-old has been training with Bolton this pre-season and has featured in a number of friendlies for Phil Parkinson’s side.

The former Portsmouth and West Ham United man appears to have done enough in pre-season to win a contract at the Macron Stadium.
O’Neil has agreed a one-year deal with Bolton and he could be available for Saturday’s opening Championship game of the season away to West Bromwich Albion.
O’Neil has made over 480 appearances in his career to date in spells with Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, West Ham, Queens Park Rangers, Norwich, Cardiff and Bristol City.
Bolton have been busy this week in the transfer market having signed Luke Murphy, Jack Hobbs and Josh Magennis – and now O’Neil has been added to the squad.
