Joe Rothwell in action for Oxford United
Blackburn Rovers are closing in on the signing of Oxford United midfielder Joe Rothwell, HITC Sport understands.
Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has been busy in this month’s transfer window and he is now lining up a move for Rothwell.
Rothwell joined Oxford from Manchester United in the summer of 2016, after coming through the ranks at Old Trafford.
The former England youth international never made a first-team appearance for United and had loan spells at both Barnsley and Blackpool during his time at Old Trafford before making the move to Oxford.

The 23-year-old has made 28 appearances in all competitions for Oxford this season and chipped in with four goals and four assists for the League One club.
Rothwell is out of contract this summer and the club have reluctantly agreed to cash-in on him this month rather than risk allowing him to run down his contract and leave for nothing at the end of the season.
Blackburn chief Mowbray has made four signings already this month, and he sees Rothwell as a key addition to his plans at Ewood Park as they look to maintain their push for promotion back to the Championship.
