Reading striker Dominic Samuel has agreed a deal to join Blackburn Rovers, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Samuel was omitted from the Reading squad that flew out to Holland for a pre-season training camp earlier this month, with Royals boss Jaap Stam willing to let him move on.

The 23-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the Madejski Stadium and, with his first-team chances set to be limited, the Championship club have opted to sell him this summer.

Samuel ended last season on loan at Ipswich Town, but failed to score in six appearances during his stint at Portman Road.

Samuel made his senior Reading debut way back in December 2012 at the age of 18, but he was unable to hold down a regular place in the side spending time out on loan at Colchester United, Dagenham & Redbridge, Coventry City, Gillingham and Ipswich during the last five seasons.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray is desperate to add to his attacking options ahead of the new season after losing loan trio Sam Gallagher, Marvin Emnes and Lucas Joao earlier this summer.

Mowbray is a big fan of Samuel having worked with the player during his time in charge of Coventry and he has kept tabs on his progress ever since that loan move.

Samuel, who scored for Reading in a 3-2 win for over Blackburn at Ewood Park last season, is now poised to become the club’s fifth new signing of the summer as they plan for life in League One next season.
