Birmingham City are posed to sign Bournemouth defender Rhoys Wiggins, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Birmingham boss Gary Rowett is keen to bolster his defensive options before the close of the transfer window and has lined up a deal for experienced full-back Wiggins.

Wiggins joined Bournemouth in the January transfer window as he returned to Dean Court for a fourth spell, but he has not made a first-team appearances for Eddie Howe’s first-team.

The 28-year-old was brought to Bournemouth to provide cover at left-back following a season ending injury to Tyrone Mings.

However, with Mings now close to full fitness and summer signing Brad Smith also providing cover for first-choice left-back Charlie Daniels Bournemouth find themselves well-stocked in the left-back department.

Wiggins is keen to move on in search of regular first-team football and the former Crystal Palace and Sheffield Wednesday man will help fill the problematic left-back role at St Andrew’s.

Wiggins could be one of two new signings at Burnley on transfer deadline day with Burnley striker Lukas Jutkiewicz undergoing a medical ahead of a season-long loan deal
