Birmingham City have agreed a deal to sign Granada midfielder Rene Krhin, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club
Slovenian international Krhin has travelled to Birmingham to hold talks and undergo a medical after the Blues agreed a fee with Granada for the midfielder’s services.
Birmingham boss Gianfranco Zola is desperate to bolster his squad during this month’s transfer window, and had made a new defensive midfielder one of his top targets.
It appears he has turned to Krhin to fill that role at St Andrew’s, and the club are hopeful of finalising a deal over the weekend for the former Inter Milan man.

Zola confirmed his interest in Krhin in his press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie with Newcastle: ‘He’s a player we have a big interest in, a Slovenian international with good qualities for us. We’ll see if it happens – he is a player who can add something to the team.

Sources tell HITC that Birmingham are also hoping to bring back Craig Gardner back to the club, and remain in talks with West Bromwich Albion over a possible loan deal with a view to a permanent deal for the midfielder.
Zola, who is yet to win any of his opening five games in charge of Birmingham, is expected to be busy in the transfer window as he looks to reshape the squad he inherited from Gary Rowett.
