HITC Sport understands Birmingham have bid for Championship rivals’ defender.

Birmingham City have launched a bid for Brentford defender Harlee Dean as they look to bolster their defensive options before the close of the transfer window, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Dean’s future at Brentford has been the subject of intense speculation all summer with the defender rejecting the offer of a new deal with his current deal due to expire next summer.
Brentford are now reluctantly willing to listen to offers for Dean rather than risk allowing him to run down his contract and leave for nothing next summer.

Dean, who was Brentford’s player of the season last term, has made over 200 appearances for the club since joining initially on loan in 2011 before making the move permanent a year later.
A whole host of clubs, including Leeds United, Nottingham Forest,, Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City have been linked with Dean, but Birmingham are hoping to win the race for his signature.

Birmingham boss Harry Redknapp is desperate to bolster his squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline and he has tabled a £2million bid for Dean.
Birmingham have endured a difficult start to the Championship season having won just one of their opening five Championship games and Dean will add experience and guile to Redknapp’s side if he brings him to St Andrew’s.
