HITC Sport understands Simon Grayson is the leading contender for Barnsley job.

Former Preston and Sunderland boss Simon Grayson has emerged as the leading candidate for the vacant manager’s job at Barnsley, HITC Sport understands.
Barnsley are searching for a new manager following Paul Heckingbottom’s shock departure to Leeds just three days after he signed a new deal at Oakwell.
Heckingbottom beat Grayson to land the Leeds boss following Thomas Christiansen’s departure earlier this week, but now Grayson could replace Heckingbottom at Barnsley.

Grayson is keen to get back into management having been out of work since leaving struggling Sunderland in October.
Barnsley are currently fourth from bottom of the Championship, just one point above the relegation zone and they want to bring in an experienced manager to help guide them to safety in the Championship.
Grayson has been waiting for the right opportunity before returning to management and managing in the Championship with Barnsley would fit the bill.
The 48-year-old has a wealth of experience having been in charge of over 600 games in his managerial career and he has also steered the likes of Leeds, Huddersfield, and Blackpool to promotion to the Championship.
Barnsley are keen to bring in a new manager with experience of the Championship and Grayson’s knowledge of the league makes him an attractive proposition to the Barnsley hierarchy.
