Leeds United and Hull City are said to be leading the chase to sign Marriott, who has scored 23 goals for Peterborough this season.
Darragh MacAnthony has described an article linking Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott with a £3 million move to Leeds United or Hull City as ‘poorly researched’.
The Daily Mirror reported on Monday afternoon that Leeds and Hull are leading the chase for Marriott, who struck twice to dump Aston Villa out of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Villa have also been credited with interest in the 23-goal player, but are ‘strapped for cash’ according to the Daily Mirror.
And Marriott will cost more than the £3 million being speculated, MacAnthony warned in response to the article on Twitter.
“Poor article research at that price. Should know Posh don’t sell prolific talent like that for those kinds of numbers,” posted the League One side’s owner.
Marriott, who only moved to Peterborough from Luton Town last summer, hails from Beverley, East Yorkshire.
And should the chance to move to either Leeds or Hull materialise, it would likely appeal to the 23-year-old.
Leeds are currently sixth in the Championship, with Hull occupying 21st place in their first season back in the second tier after being relegated last term.
