Leeds United have a superb central defender on their books.

According to a recent report from the Irish Sun, Leeds United must pay £3.6million to sign Pontus Jansson in a permanent deal next year, and that could go down as the smartest money the Whites have spent in over a decade.

Jansson’s temporary move will become permanent if he plays the requisite 20 matches and considering how well he has taken to life at Elland Road that is surely only a matter of time.

Already something of a cult hero, Jansson has transformed Leeds’ back-line, helping them go on a winning run that sees them just four points outside the play-off places as we head into the latest international break.

When you consider the huge sums spent on the likes of Seth Johnson, Olivier Dacourt, Robbie Fowler et al, Jansson has the potential to make a considerably bigger impact if he maintains his current form, becoming the bedrock of Leeds’s defence for years to come.

Assuming Leeds do make it back to the top flight after far too long away, Jansson is exactly the kind of defender they need to bring stability to a side who will not want a fleeting visit.

In a time of inflated transfer fees, £3.6million for Jansson is nothing short of a steal, and that is one very big reason for Leeds fans to be cheerful.
