Leeds United are desperate to keep hold of Pontus Jansson for next season.

Pontus Jansson’s comments to the Yorkshire Evening Post about wanting to play in the Premier League with Leeds United are eerily similar to Lewis Cook’s, just before he left.

Jansson’s future at Elland Road has been heavily speculated about this season, with Leeds disappointing again.

However, the Swedish centre-back suggested yesterday that he wanted to play in the top flight with the Whites.

“I said I had a dream to play in the Premier League but I also said that the dream for me is playing with Leeds,” Jansson said. “That’s what I said from day one.”

Jansson’s comments are sure to put some Leeds’ fans minds at rest, but it shouldn’t be taken for granted that he’ll be staying.

Indeed, Cook said very similar about his desire to stay at Leeds before leaving.

“Of course it’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League and I want to make it there with Leeds,” Cook said to the Daily Mail, just six months before he left to join Bournemouth.

Leeds fans will be desperately hoping that history does not repeat itself, as Jansson is so crucial to them.

Leeds will need an injection of quality in the summer to have any chance of gaining promotion, so to lose key players would be a bitter blow.

Jansson has started regularly for Leeds this term, but Paul Heckingbottom’s side have failed to find him a regular partner, like he had in Kyle Bartley last term.
