Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year.

Pontus Jansson’s brother Peter has sent an emotional message to the Leeds centre-back on Twitter after he was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, and urged the Whites to go on and seal promotion in the remaining weeks of the season.
Jansson was named alongside Leeds captain Liam Cooper in the defence, while Pablo Hernandez also made it into the side. The Swede may have struggled in the last two games, but there is no question that he has enjoyed an outstanding campaign.
It is easy to forget that Marcelo Bielsa did not initially include Jansson in his starting lineup at the beginning of the season with the defender returning to pre-season slightly later after being at the World Cup.
But he benefited from an injury to Gaetano Berardi early on in the season and has been a key man for the Whites ever since, making 37 Championship appearances, including 35 starts. He has also scored three goals.

The last couple of games have highlighted just how important Jansson is to Leeds’ fortunes. He unfortunately had difficult afternoons against both Wigan and Brentford – he was of course by no means the only player to struggle – and the Whites now look to be heading for the play-offs.
Leeds will be looking for a big boost when they face Aston Villa this weekend. But ahead of that game, they have received a lift with Jansson, Cooper and Hernandez being named in the Championship Team of the Year.

And following the announcement, Jansson’s brother Peter sent a message to Pontus to congratulate him on the accolade, while he also urged him to finish the job that Leeds have started by getting across the line in the promotion race.
